The Registan Square<\/strong> is a real gem located in the very heart of the ancient city of Samarkand<\/strong>. It has gained its worldwide fame<\/strong> thanks to the great architectural ensemble<\/strong> that has become a monument of the oriental architecture<\/strong>. From three sides<\/em>, the square surrounded with grand madrassah<\/strong>, portals which facing the center of the space. All three erections have their own unique decor<\/strong>. It is virtue of these buildings, preserved on the territory of the city, Samarkand<\/strong> <\/em>was included in the UNESCO World Heritage<\/em> <\/strong>List in 2001. <\/p>\n Translated from Uzbek, \u201cRegistan\u201d<\/strong> means a sand place. In ancient times, central square covered by sand. The area not initially surrounded by madrassah<\/strong>; those great erections appeared rather later. In that period, authorities of the city<\/strong> were group people on the square to call khan\u2019s orders, held gala and public executions<\/strong>, and collected the army leaving to war<\/strong>. <\/p>\n In the past, one could see many trade rows around the square<\/strong>, where artisans and farmers<\/strong> were selling their goods. All main roads of Samarkand<\/strong> led to Registan<\/strong> where it was always noisy and lively<\/strong>. <\/p>\n Various rulers during their reign would change the main significance of the square<\/strong>, but since those times and up to now, Registan<\/strong> has always been the center of the city social life.<\/p>\n There are three madrassahs on the square<\/strong>: Ulughbek, Sherdor and Tilla-Kori<\/strong><\/em>, that are the main sights of the city<\/strong>.
